Abstract:
In this paper, the main characteristics of high-energy electrons in the radiation belt are studied, which is related with deep dielectric charging on satellites. A model for radiation belt electrons is proposed to evaluate the risk of a certain vehicle’s deep dielectric discharging during its passing through the radiation belt. The results show that the model’s performance is better than that of AE8 in representing dynamic characteristics of energetic electrons and good agreement is obtained with ESA’s FLUMIC. By combining with analytic models for deep dielectric charging, our model may be useful in on-orbit diagnostics of charging and discharging anormalies and for protection designs.
