Abstract:
A simulation of the interaction between a rigid wheel and lunar soil simulant was carried out on a platform developed specially by our institute, and the simulated results were compared with those obtained by soil bin experiments. It was found that the error was within 30%, and the predicted sinkage agrees extremely well with the experiment results, and thereby to some extent the proposed wheel-soil interaction model was validated. But the shear force prediction was unsatisfactory and further effort will be needed to improve the model.
