Abstract:
The laser-driven flyer system with a single pulses from a Q-switched Nd glas laser of 15 ns duration and up to 20 J energy designed to launch the aluminum films of 5 μm in thickness up to 8.3 km/s velocity, which was developed in Beijing Institute of Spacecrafts Environment Engineering(BISEE), is briefly introduced. Some experiments on the space debris hypervelocity impacts on the outer surfaces of functional materials, such as thermal control material, window glass, and OSR etc., are reviewed. The laser-driven flyer technique is shown to be promising in simulating micro M/OD hypervelocity impacting effects.
