Abstract:
In this paper, we investigate the impacts of the space environment on radio propagation, especially that of the plasma environment. Several typical models of the ionosphere are discussed, focusing on models commonly used in engineering. A quantitative analysis of the influence of ionosphere on radio propagation and path characteristics is then made. An integral model of the space plasma environment (including interplanetary plasma environment and ionospheric plasma environment)is proposed for studies on electromagnetic impacts of the Earth’s magnetic field. Finally, the future research directions on the impacts of space environment on communication are suggested.
