Abstract:
This paper discusses the wheel and the axle of the CE-3 rover. The abrasion test for wheel and axle materials is conducted by using the lunar dust, the environment simulator, the friction-abrasion test machine and the lunar dust simulator developed by Beijing Institute of Spacecraft Environment Engineering (BISEE). The influence of lunar dust grains on the abrasion characteristics of materials is studied. The sample materials include the aluminum alloy and Teflon and steel materials used for axle. The surface micro structures before test and after test are analyzed. The friction coefficient curves are acquired in the vacuum grain environment. The mass loss of materials is obtained by weighing, to see how the vacuum environment, the lunar dust grain and materials characteristics influence the abrasion characteristics.
