Abstract:
The water resource is essential for the extraterrestrial in-situ resource utilization, and it can not only ensure the human survival in space but also refuel the rocket with hydrogen by the photochemical reaction. In this paper, the explorations and the methods for extracting the extraterrestrial water resources are reviewed firstly; then an apparatus is built based on the proposed novel water extraction method, and a preliminary study is conducted with the lunar regolith simulant CUG-1A. It is shown that the mass of the collected condensate reaches 15 g after one hour with a heating power of 500 W when the initial ice content of the frozen lunar regolith simulants is 10% and the initial temperature is -15 ℃.
