Abstract:
To investigate the properties of flexible thermal protection materials used for the inflatable reentry and descent system, the TPS materials are designed according to the previous work and the technical parameters of such kind of materials, and several test samples are developed for the high enthalpy wind tunnel test study. Test results show that the test samples can withstand a thermal flux up to 25 W/cm
2 for 300 s, in that the Nextel alumina textile plays the role of the effective insulation for temperature over 1200
℃, and the inorganic insulation layer has very low thermal conductivity: those two layers could effectively bring down the temperature of the Kevlar textile to one lower than 250
℃. The material can meet the light weight requirement to a certain extent, with its mechanical properties remaining generally stable after the test, and its thermal protection property insusceptible to the folding process and the sewing process.
