Abstract:
The study of the magnetic reconnection as an important physical process in the space plasma environment is of vital importance to forecasting the space disaster and ensuring the safety of the space exploration activities. This paper firstly reviews some important models of magnetic reconnection, then introduces several important plasma devices for the ground-based experimental study of magnetic reconnection. Next the current situation of magnetic reconnection experimental facilities in China is discussed, focusing on the KLMP device developed in the University of Science and Technology of China with its latest experimental results, and the KRX device, which is still under construction. For ground-based experiment as an important way to study the magnetic reconnection process, efforts should be put in expanding the size of the facilities as well as in exploring the features of reconnection under added different conditions.
