Abstract:
The special requirements for non-metallic materials in the sealed cabin of manned spacecraft are discussed in this paper. The basic mechanical, electrostatic, and hygroscopic properties of the specially-made chitosan fiber cloth are characterized. Meanwhile, the flammability, toxicity, and outgassing characteristics of the cloth are analyzed based on the test data. In view of the practical onboard environment, the antibacterial and mildew resistance tests of the chitosan fiber cloth with mixed space bacteria and molds are carried out. It is shown that the cloth enjoys excellent flame retardant, antistatic and antifungal properties, to meet the application requirements of the manned spacecraft.
