Abstract:
The effects of the micro-space debris hypervelocity impact on the properties of spacecraft are significant. In order to study the mechanism of the impact damage, this paper studies experimentally the launching high speed flyer by using HEAVEV-I KrF excimer laser irradiating flyer targets with substrate, and the velocity of the flyer is diagnosed by Imaging-VISAR. The experimental results show that the velocity of the flyer of 10 μm thickness is up to 12 km/s driven by 1.9 J KrF excimer laser. The efficiency of the laser energy translated to the kinetic energy of the flyer can be up to 39.4%. And the process of loading is quasi-isentropic. The experiments indicate that the efficiency of the laser energy translation into the kinetic energy of the flyer of quasi-isentropic loading is much higher than the shocking load.
