Abstract:
In this paper, the principles of the laser-induced ablative driving and the space debris de-orbiting are discussed. The criteria of the active removal of space debris and two modes for de-orbiting are analyzed. Based on the above theories, three removal schemes are proposed, for removing debris around typical orbits at altitudes of 1200 km, 800 km and 500 km. The requirements of the schemes and the technologies are compared, and it is shown that the active removal of space debris using the space-based laser system is feasible.
