Abstract: Space weather science is a new frontier comprehensive and interdisciplinary science. Firstly, the history, the present status, and the development trend are discussed, and it is emphasized that an in-depth knowledge of the subject matter would not only serve as a "booster" for economic and social advances, but also as an "accelerator" for pushing new tides of scientific revolution, as well as an "amplifier" for space security. Secondly, the relationship between the space weather science and the peaceful use of space is discussed. Lastly, the outlook of the discipline in China is prospected. Proposals are made for enacting and implementing the "National Space Weather Program of China: a ten-year plan" and the special national project of "Space weather science serving for peaceful use of space".
