Abstract:
This paper discusses a SPIE conference paper delivered in 2005 titled Validation of Commercial Fiber Optic Components For Aerospace Environments. The paper covers the technology validation assurance test approach adopted by NASA GSFC for commercial-off-the-shelf(COTS) fiber optic components under space flight environments (vacuum, thermal cycling, vibration, irradiation, etc). The approach also involves how to establish the technology validation criteria for commercial fiber products. It provides the information about COTS product qualification test plan for the Mercury Laser Altimeter, including the test specification of thermal and random vibration and the vibration fixture.
