Abstract:
Polymers, normally used as insulation and dielectric materials, are widely applied in connectors, microwave switches, integrated circuits and other electronic components. The degradation of polymer properties in space UV radiation environment has a significant effect on the performance of the related components. This paper discusses in detail two kinds of space UV effects on the properties of polymers, namely, the transient effects and the cumulative effects. The methods and ways for enhancing the UV durability of polymers are proposed, together with future research concerns.
